Fergus Stewart & Greg Crowe
Demo Workshop

Fergus Stewart is an internationally known ceramicist and producer of unique hand-thrown functional and decorative pieces, for use in the kitchen and on the table. He lives in the remote Scottish Highlands and is back here visiting Perth where in 1981 he and Greg Crowe designed and built a wood-fired salt kiln.

Greg, as many of you know, established Hovea Pottery here in Perth in 1980 and is also an international acclaimed potter, specialising in throwing, the use of local materials, clay etc, ash glazes. All his work is high fired stoneware, either wood fired, salt glazed or fired in a gas kiln.

Together Greg and Fergus will demonstrate the work they make over the 2 days. They will be demonstrating simultaneously. There will be dialogue and discussion about making pots and their relative approaches to pots, clay and firing.

'Form' with Warrick Palmateer

White Peacock Studios presents a hands-on workshop with acclaimed WA potter Warrick Palmateer who will be teaching us
the skill of throwing vessels to a specific form.
Focus on proportions and placements of the vessels rim, shoulder, belly and base. Learn how to constructively critique your work analysing what works and why.
Students attending this workshop will need to have intermediate throwing skills.

Mundaring Hills Open Studios 2019

White Peacock Studios will be participating again this October at the exciting Mundaring Hills Open Studios. This year will be bigger again and will take place over two weekends and the week in between.

This year White Peacock Studios will be featuring more than just ceramics. There will be painting by William Boissevain and Jeni Sleigh, jewellery by Laula Perey and fibre sculptures by Carolyn McIntosh. Potters include Dee Parker, Liz Berry, Rebecca Tester, Jeni Sleigh and Thao Nguyen. There will be demonstrations on throwing and turning plus a wide range of unique pieces to purchase.

Angel Sculpture Workshop

In this workshop, you will make two angels in clay, one small angel (15cm high) and one bigger angel (30cm high). You will be taught the simple skills needed to create your own designs, be it sweet, spiritual, or whatever resonates with you. You will then return the following week to paint your angels after they have been fired.


Robyn Varpins has been working as an artist all her life and has developed skills in many areas. She has been teaching art for nearly as long and has a relaxed, supportive manner that encourages students to blossom. She loves to inspire her students to try new ideas.

Bust Sculpture Workshop

In this workshop you will learn about the proportions of the human head and master the skills to produce a realistic face. You will build a free standing head and shoulders in a day and a half. They will be fired for you to return and learn to use underglazes to colour your bust for a second firing.

Ceramic Workshop

From the remote Scottish Highlands to Perth WA we are excited to be holding a workshop hosted by the talented and established potter Fergus Stewart.
Fergus is well known to Perth. In 1984 he set up his own studio at Glendalough, WA. The following year Fergus, together with Greg Crowe designed and built a wood-fired salt kiln in Hovea, which was the starting point of his work with salt glazing.
Fergus will be teaching us throwing and trimming techniques along with decorating ideas and an insight into wood firing, salt glazing and kiln building.

Life Drawing Sessions

White Peacock Studios is holding untutored sessions for artists who want to come and sketch, draw, pastel or paint nude models.
The sessions take place in our rustic rammed earth workshop nestled in a bush garden with an abundance of wildlife.

 

Includes: Charcoal, Paper (suitable for pencil, charcoal, pastel & light brush), Easel (limited number, chairs available), morning tea

CRYSTALLINE WORKSHOP

White Peacock Studios is pleased to present Andrew Tremain who will be hosting a workshop for ceramic enthusiasts who want to learn and understand the art of crystalline glazing.

Discover the flowery blooms of a crystalline glaze. Begin with
producing suitable forms to carry the glaze, participants will be guided in throwing, altering and trimming. Then learn everything from glaze formulation to spraying application. Finally, attention will be paid to the post-firing finishing of the works: removal of catchers, etching, and grinding.

 

Includes: Clay to throw suitable pots (2 finished pieces per person), morning tea and making glazes. Please bring apron, towel and lunch and wear closed in shoes. Download pdf here.

'WHAT A TOOL' OPEN DAY

White Peacock Studios will be appearing at this year's Mundaring Arts Centre's 'What a Tool' Open Day. We will be doing demonstrations on wheel throwing and turning and giving you the opportunity to have a go and learn to use the wheel. White Peacock Studios participated for the first time last October at the  exciting open studios weekend in the Mundaring Hills. It was a massive success. We featured wheel thrown pottery made by artists in residence (see link about the artists) with demonstrations on throwing and turning. There was something for everyone.
